Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is designed to manage long-term prevention of pests damaging your trees.
What is IPM?
Integrated Pest Management (IPM), also known as Integrated Pest Control (IPC), is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices.
How do IPM Programs work?
IPM programs use information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment (ie. your trees) to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.
IPM programs take advantage of all appropriate pest management options to determine the best solution for your trees and your property through prevention, environmental controls and elimination.
What are the main elements of an IPM program?
While each situation we see may be different, there are five major components common to all IPM programs:
- Pest identification
- Monitoring and assessing pest numbers and damage
- Guidelines for when management action is needed
- Preventing pest problems
- Using a combination of biological, cultural, physical/mechanical and chemical management tools
